A guide to growing Rashad seeds (spicy watercress)

Step 1: Preparing the soil or pot

  • Choose a wide pot or garden area with rich, well-drained soil.
  • Sprouts can also be grown in sprouting trays or even on a moist cotton substrate.
  • Rashad prefers moist soil rich in organic matter.

Step 2: Sowing

  • Scatter the seeds densely on the surface of the soil or on a moist substrate.
  • If sowing in the ground, cover them with a very thin layer of soil (about 0.5 cm).
  • Water gently to maintain even moisture.

Step 3: Growing Conditions

  • Rashad grows well in full sun or partial shade.
  • Ideal growing temperature: 10-25°C.
  • It is important to keep the soil moist at all times, as drying out will harm growth.

Stage 4: Germination and growth

  • The seeds will germinate very quickly – within 3-7 days.
  • If grown in a soil substrate, the plants can be thinned out slightly when they reach a height of 5 cm.

Step 5: Maintenance and Harvesting

  • You can start harvesting young ("baby") leaves when they reach a length of 7-10 cm.
  • Regular picking will encourage continued growth, but when the plant begins to flower, the leaves become more bitter.
  • It is recommended to sow every two weeks to ensure a continuous supply of fresh leaves.
