A guide to growing mint seeds

Step 1: Preparing the soil or pot

  • Choose a pot or planter with drainage holes, or prepare a garden area with well-drained soil.
  • Fill the pot with good quality soil enriched with compost. Mint likes moist but not waterlogged soil.

Step 2: Sowing

  • Scatter the seeds over the soil.
  • Cover them with a very thin layer of soil (about 2 mm).
  • Water gently so as not to move the seeds.

Step 3: Growing Conditions

  • Place the pot in a location with partial to full sun.
  • Maintain constant moisture but avoid flooding.
  • Optimal growing temperature: 15-25°C.

Step 4: Germination and care of young plants

  • The seeds will germinate within 7-14 days.
  • When the seedlings grow a little, thin them out so that there is a 10-15 cm gap between the plants.
  • Prune tall plants to encourage broad, lush growth.

Step 5: Maintenance and Harvesting

  • Water the plant regularly, especially in the summer.
  • Fertilize monthly with a light organic fertilizer.
  • Start harvesting leaves when the plant reaches a height of 10-15 cm. Regular picking will encourage new growth.
