Chive Seed Growing Guide

Step 1: Preparing the soil or pot

  • Choose a deep pot with drainage holes or a garden area with rich, well-drained soil.
  • Mix compost with the soil to provide essential nutrients.

Step 2: Sowing

  • Scatter the seeds on the surface of the soil at intervals of 1-2 cm.
  • Cover them with a thin layer of soil (about 0.5 cm).
  • Water gently to maintain moisture.

Step 3: Growing Conditions

  • Place the pot or garden in a location with full sun to partial shade.
  • Maintain constant soil moisture, but avoid overwatering.
  • Ideal growing temperature: 15-25°C.

Stage 4: Germination and growth

  • The seeds will germinate within 10-20 days.
  • When the seedlings reach a height of 5-7 cm, they can be thinned and a distance of 10 cm can be maintained between the plants.

Step 5: Maintenance and Harvesting

  • Regular watering but without flooding.
  • Light fertilization once a month will help maintain healthy growth.
  • When the chives reach a height of 15 cm, you can begin to gently harvest the outer leaves with sharp scissors.
